Happy Fri-YAY everyone! A few weeks ago I started a little series called Love City 101. The goal of this series is to educate the new comers to St. John and give a little refresher to those of you who visit year after year in regards to island etiquette and ways for all of us to work together and take care of St. John and the people who live here. The first post in this series covered some common greetings on island and some protocol to follow while you are having fun around town. This second installment touches on ways to enhance your beach experience while also being courteous to the marine life and other happy beach goers that you are sharing your beach day with!
Concordia Eco Resort is Open For Business!
Good Morning, Good Morning! I have some GREAT news for you all this morning! This week, a flood of posts from the beautiful eco resort that overlooks Salt Pond hit Facebook. Signifying that Concordia Eco Resort has finally made a recovery from the damage and disrepair caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017. And it looks absolutely incredible!

Giving Tuesday that is 🙂 Over the past several weeks, I have been sharing with you A LOT of fundraisers and raffles, which are great ways to give back while also possibly getting something in return. But, today, on a day of global generosity, I thought it might be neat to simply share with you a list of amazing, St. John organizations that do SO much for the Love City Community. I have a bleeding heart for the organizations on St. John that do SO MUCH GOOD here in support of the community and the environment in this beautiful place. These organizations run solely on generosity from their donors and dedicated volunteers. New Webcam Alert- Picture Yourself at Honeymoon Beach!
Good Morning All! I hope that you all had an absolutely beautiful holiday weekend filled with friends, family, good eats and lots and lots of gratitude. I, personally, had a last minute opportunity to be with my ENTIRE family in Portland, Oregon for the long holiday weekend. It was absolutely glorious to gather with all of my people. But, man oh man, it is COLD up there for this island girl! Like a lot of you during this time of year, as the fall creeps out and winter seeps in, I found myself turning to images of white sand beaches and beautiful blue waters for little internal warm-up moments 🙂 And in my searches, I noticed a new St. John webcam!

40th Annual Thanksgiving Regatta is This Saturday!
If you are lucky enough to be on island right now, and you are desirous of a perfectly eccentric and unique St. John experience, then you will want to make sure you are in Coral Bay this weekend! Saturday, beginning at 10AM, is the 40th Annual Thanksgiving Regatta and you will not want to miss out on this unique and fun event attended by sea loving landlubbers and mariners alike.

Summers End Yacht Club Permit Request Closed
I know a lot of you readers out there have requested updates on the Coral Bay Marina project known as the Yacht Club at Summers End. And, to be honest, there hasn’t been a ton of forward, or backward, movement on the plans. But recently, the Army Corps of Engineers requested more information, without response, from the Summers End Group (SEG) that would be needed in order to move forward with their permit review. And a group in Coral Bay is rallying the local “troops” in order to have their say in further halting the process.
Planning Your Trip to St. John – A Timeline
Happy Monday! We just wrapped up another spectacular weekend here on St. John. On Friday, we did a little happy hour at Lovango Rum Bar with Kenny Floyd on stage and then headed over to The Beach Bar for an incredible night of music from a superstar lineup. There were so many good people around and we got to get some masked up dancing in…Which was a true highlight! It was relatively quiet in town on Friday night…But, on Saturday we went over to St. Thomas to pick up some boat parts and stock up on produce at Moe’s and the ferry ride home was ANYTHING but quiet. It was PACKED. Like, literally standing room only. And the holiday check ins don’t really start until next week. Which leads me to the purpose of this article….
Love City 101, Part 1- Greetings, Niceties and Cover Ups
Good Morning All! Last year, with all of the first time visitors, there seemed to be some frustrations bubbling in both the on-island resident community AND the long time visitor crowd. I think something that gets overlooked here, because it does seem very much like the states, is that there are cultural norms and niceties here that stem from the heritage of native Virgin Islanders. These daily habits and, on the other side, snafus, often do not get translated to folks who have just moved to island or are only here for a short time during their first visit.
I know, I know, there are those who simply exhibit bad behavior and, unfortunately, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks when they are simply visiting for a week. But, I think that a lot of the cultural norms and daily rituals that we have here often remain overlooked by visitors and new comers simply because they don’t know! So, as we get into another seemingly BUSY season over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing what I can in order to help make your stay on St. John as Love City NICE as it can be! Because Love City boils down to the kindnesses of the people who live here. And, you gotta give it to get it!
