It’s a tequila drinking, taco eating, salsa dunking, mariachi dancing kinda Wednesday and the weather on St. John today is looking beautifully cooperative for a mid-day Margarita in the sun and sand.

Well, there are quite a few options for those of your feeling festive on island for a tasty tequila libation, south of the border snack or simply a good time in the sunshine!

If you have been on island recently, you may have noticed a lot of workers on the roads, in the parking lots and at dump sites. If you come down frequently, you may have taken note over time of the diminishing number of derelict vehicles, trash on the roadsides, potholes in the roads and jumbled power lines in your sight lines. Recently, the Government House VI has started a video series entitled “The Administrators’ Corner,” allowing our lovely Island Administrator, Shikima Jones-Sprauve, to address the community and recap the work that her team, in partnership with local contractors and the Bryan-Roach Administration, have been able to get started and get completed since she took office in 2019. Improvements are on the move and on the horizon for the infrastructure and accessibility here on St. John!
Happy Fri-YAY! I’ve got some great news to share with you today about a fun way to spend your Saturday evening, bringing the sounds and colorful personalities of St. John into your home! A local non-profit organization, Sing St. John, will be hosting a free virtual Quelbe and Reggae Revival concert tomorrow (Saturday, April 24) at 7PM EST via zoom featuring the local talents of the late Mahlon “Koko” Pickering, Warren “Addis” Smith, Haile Isreal, Lemuel “Beeble” Callwood, Roy “Ras Feba” Reid and the Sing St. John Recovery Choir.
Happy Earth Day Everyone! I hope that all of you are planning a little something to do your part in your own neck of the woods today in an effort to preserve our beautiful Mother Earth. I always say, saving the world is overwhelming, but if we each do a few easy things each day it can make a big difference! I wanted to take this opportunity to share some small things you can do to help out a little on St. John today, or the next time you’re visiting, to help preserve the paradise that we all love so much.
Good Morning! If you’re on island right now, you may have noticed the brackish haze on the horizon, as well as some pretty unworldly sunsets, over the past week. To the naked eye, it seems that the air quality is just a bit poor, dulling the vibrant greens and blues we are accustomed to here in the VI. Well, it IS poor air quality, to be fair. But its also a crazy natural phenomenon that has always blown my mind, ever since I moved to St. John.
Over the past few weeks, we have been working with Island Green to promote their “Two Tickets to Paradise” fundraiser. By buying a raffle ticket (or ten!), you not only get the opportunity to win an ALL-INCLUSIVE trip to St. John, but you are also supporting a super important organization on island.
Did you know that non-reef safe sunscreen is actually illegal in the USVI? Our coral reefs here are in trouble and the increased amount of traffic, both on boats and beaches, this year hasn’t been helpful to their recovery. But, by using non-toxic sun protection, you can help to preserve our marine life. And Island Green has been at the forefront of the initiatives to protect that precious underwater world that we all enjoy so much!
A lot of messages have come in regarding Reef Safe sunscreen, so I asked the folks at Island Green to write something up for you! Read on about the sunscreen initiatives in the USVI and BUY A RAFFLE TICKET in support of this great cause AND your next St. John getaway.
I have tried my hardest to keep you all up to date on travel trends, advisories, on island pointers and increases in traffic on St. John over the past few months. Starting in about February, it started to BOOM here with little reprieve from tourism traffic since then. And, it does not look like its going to let up any time soon. I read two very interesting articles this morning and wanted to share a bit of the information with you about what to expect here on St. John in the coming months.
Yesterday afternoon, St. John received visits from two different natural phenomenons…Both of which are impressive feats of nature in my book! The west side of the island sat under stagnant, hazy air, while the east end received a bit of rain and quite a show from Mother Nature!
