Caneel Bay Update- CBIA and EHI File Lawsuit Against US Government For “Quiet Title” Ownership

Caneel Bay Update- CBIA and EHI File Lawsuit Against US Government For "Quiet Title" Ownership 1

Good Morning, Good Morning….I have some, um…Interesting news for you all this morning.  It might read like rainbows and sunshine in regards to the immediate future of Caneel Bay Resort at first glance.  But, I urge you to take a closer look at what we have been talking about over the past several years in regards to Caneel Bay Resort, the state it has been left in and the seeming lack of empathy for the local community prior to the filing of this lawsuit.  In which, EHI, LLC and, its affiliate, CBI Acquisitions lay claim to the ownership of the property upon which Caneel Bay Resort rests.  Which, as we know it, is National Park land with a management company responsible for the operations of the resort.

Leatherback Sea Turtle Babies Make Their Way to the Sea!

Leatherback Sea Turtle Babies Make Their Way to the Sea! 2

Happy Day to you all!  You might remember the April 25 announcement of the first Leatherback Sea Turtle nest on St. John since 2016.  And then a second in May…Both at some of your favorite North Shore Beaches!  Well, in late June, in the wee morning hours, those little hatchlings made their way from the shores of St. John to the sea under the watchful eyes of the Friends Virgin Island National Park Sea Turtle Program managers and volunteers.  And I imagine we will be seeing the second set of babies very soon!

This Weekend: An Inspirational Girl Scout Coordinates Coral Bay Cleanup

This Weekend: An Inspirational Girl Scout Coordinates Coral Bay Cleanup 3

Good Morning, Good Morning!  I received a phone call a few weeks ago from the Commodore of the Coral Bay Yacht Club, Leah Hansen, about a young lady from Virginia who was working towards her Girl Scout Gold Award.  The project she choose to dedicate 80 hours towards was the coordination and execution of a clean up on the shores of Coral Bay.  I asked Leah to connect us to chat about the cleanup that is happening this weekend.  And, last week, I had the opportunity to speak to this bright 17-year-old about the motivation behind her choosing of this particular project and the information she wanted to share about the event.

Scenes from St. John Carnival

Scenes from St. John Carnival 4

Good Morning, Good Morning!  What a weekend!  St. John surely came alive this year for our first carnival since 2019.  The people, the parades, the music, the food…culture and revelry at last INDEED.  The USVI Festival Committee really did an incredible job on the organization of all of the events this year with the most grandly executed J’ouvert I have attended and one of the largest Independence Day parades to date.  The entire island is hungover from overindulgence of Jell-o shots and electric lemonades, glitter and confetti still line the streets, our bellies are full of roti and pate and fried chicken, our cheeks hurting from over smiling, our legs aching from dancing in the streets and our hearts overflowing with gratitude for this beautiful place and the weeklong celebrations of freedom we just experienced.  The events culminate on the Fourth of July for a grand parade in the streets of Cruz Bay…An Independence Day parade like no other.  And, before we move on this week into “other news,” I wanted to share some beautiful images with you all from yesterday, and from the past week of Carnival celebrations.

St. John is Saving You a Seat!

St. John is Saving You a Seat! 7

Yesterday afternoon, a pretty awesome photo op was added to the Cruz Bay waterfront.  A giant neon Adirondack chair that just screams, “take a selfie with me!” was constructed by the Department of Public Works in collaboration with USVI Festivals, the Department of Tourism and the Bryan Roach Administration on the beach between the ferry dock and the battery.  And I think it is absolutely amazing!

Good Morning, Good Morning!  I hope that all of you out there are gearing up for a fabulous weekend filled with summertime fun!  We, here in Love City are gearing up for our first full fledged Carnival since 2019!  The parking lots have been closed and the booths are being built for the opening of the Village on July 30.  BUT, this Sunday is (in my opinion) the BEST part of Carnival.  The food, the drinks, the steel pans, the boat races and the local legends, Cool Sessions Brass, will all be a part of the fun in downtown Cruz Bay this Sunday.  The vibes are in the air for an absolutely incredible Sunday Funday here on St. John!
