Steve Simonsen has sometimes risked his life for a great photograph. But his latest project didn’t require him to go much further than Stanley Selengut’s Concordia development on the north shore.
“I received an urgent telephone call from my good friend Pam Gaffin,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“She was terribly excited about an event that was happening before her eyes … a migration of soldier crabs (hermit crabs). And there were millions and millions of them.”
Simonsen didn’t need to hear more before he grabbed his gear and headed out.
“Pam told me that this began this morning at sunrise. I have heard about this migration for years and knew that it occurred in August.”
