The Love City Pan Dragons Youth Steel Orchestra is holding its first fundraiser in hopes of financing a trip to Antigua. The first fundraiser will be a Christmas concert held on Dec. 23 at 5 pm at the St. John School of the Arts. The Antigua trip was initially planned for summer 2020, but due to the pandemic, the trip was pushed off. Currently, the band has raised $16,000 of the anticipated $50,000 needed for the trip.
As you gaze upon the marinas scattered across St. John’s landscape, you can clearly see many boats elegantly tethered in mooring fields. These vessels are the livelihood of the skilled boat captains who call this island home, using their unwavering dedication to providing for their families. As we are amid hurricane season, it’s a wonder what these captains would do to protect their vessels if a hurricane were to sweep through the island.

St. John is known for its vibrant culture and active community. However, one of St. John’s hidden gems comes from the St. John Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club, unofficially known as the “Love City Stranglers,” where members learn the fundamentals of the sport and self-defense.

St. John Rescue, the dedicated all-volunteer organization committed to saving lives and serving the community, is seeking donations to purchase a new oxygen generator and multiple portable oxygen concentrators. The former separates oxygen from compressed air to produce medical-grade oxygen. The latter are small, mobile devices that provide sufficient oxygen to its user. The organization’s president, Bob Malacarne, said purchasing these items would help anyone on St. John, from locals to tourists, offer oxygen to those in need free of charge.
