The Whales are Back!

The Whales are Back! 1

Yesterday was an absolutely incredible day for many boaters, residents and whale watchers on St. John!  We were out on a half  day sail near Little St. James when the radio started going crazy with Coast Guard recognition of a small pod of whales off of St. John’s North Shore.  I pulled up Facebook (yes, it IS good for some things!) and saw the alerts from other boaters.  “Whales spotted on the North Shore heading towards Lovango.”  That was at about 1PM yesterday.  As the afternoon went on, more and more friends and comrades began posting videos and photos of their encounters.  Unfortunately, we were passing them like ships in the night, so none of these photos are my own (I was almost crying at the end of the day, LOL).  But, check out the following for some pictures, snaps from videos and info on how to properly conduct yourself in the event of one of these magical encounters!

Eat Local Food – A Guide to St. John’s Caribbean Inspired Eateries

Eat Local Food - A Guide to St. John's Caribbean Inspired Eateries 2

Hello all!  This is a topic I have been wanting to share with you comprehensively for a very long time.  In many Caribbean and International tourism destinations, the native culture of the place remains somewhat apparent, despite outside influences.  I recall being in Costa Rica and eating “Tipico” or typical Costa Rican food nearly every day!  And, on our trip to Grenada this summer, locally inspired cuisine was the norm.  Here on St. John, it is unfortunately a bit more difficult to seek out the local and Caribbean inspired dining options.  But, they are out there in abundance.  And well worth the search!

A Few Clarifications on COVID Testing for Travel

A Few Clarifications on COVID Testing for Travel 4

Happy New Year to you all!  I hope that you all found a great way to celebrate the old year and ring in the new over the weekend!  We closed out the old year with a DOLPHIN sighting at Lovango Cay!  A mama and her baby were just playing around in the water right next to us for like 20 minutes.  I laughed, I cried and a gave a whole lotta gratitude for that magical moment in time.  And we rang in the New Year at Beach Bar with Mother Goat and many beautiful members of our island family.  Masked up and getting down.  It was AWESOME.  So cheers to you, cheers to St. John and cheers to a bright new 2022 ahead of us all 🙂  And, now, on to the news….

Happy Old Year- Gratitude for the Year Behind Us 6

Today marks the dawn of the last day of the old year.  The last day of 2021.  The last day before a new horizon line of a bright new year is laid out in front of us.  In Africa, and correspondingly the Caribbean, you might hear a phrase that seems a bit foreign to your ears on our generally stated “New Year’s Eve.”

“Happy Old Year.”

COVID-19 Update- Important Changes to Travel Testing

COVID-19 Update- Important Changes to Travel Testing 9

Good Morning, Good Morning!  Yesterday afternoon, Governor Bryan made some announcements about some restrictions for bars & restaurants and COVID-19 travel testing changes that you need to be aware of if you are traveling into the territory over the next 30 days.  We ALL have COVID fatigue. I totally get it.  But, in the past week the territory has gone from a 1.6% positivity rate to 11.6%.  And, although Omicron is seemingly not as hazardous as the previous strains we have dealt with (hospitalizations in the territory remain low!), it is still spreading like wildfire and the USVI, as of yesterday’s announcement, is at the highest number of positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
