St. John's Love City Car Ferries has resolved to do some marketing in the New Year!
The operator of the Capt. Vic car barge has announced what looks similar to a frequent flyer program called the Vic Sea Miles Club.
Open to residents of the Virgin Islands, members will be offered ways to save on their ferry rides and "be the first to know of any special sales or offers."
The company has also adopted a mascot, an effort to give the big black-and-white barge a more cuddly image. And the mascot needs a name.
So, Love City Car Ferries began a naming contest this week. VI residents have until Feb. 15 to propose a name and the person who submits the winning name will receive $500.
Even visitors can apparently be winners with the ferry company's marketing ventures. The company's Web site has a coupon good for $5 off any round trip fare. Get the coupon here.

My two entries! Let me know if I win!
Fin Ferry
They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning,
No-one you see, is smarter than he,
And we know Flipper, lives in a world full of wonder,
Flying there-under, under the sea!
Everyone loves the king of the sea…
Duane, everyone knows that Flipper is the most famous dolphin, and as such, there can be only one Flipper. So the new mascot has to be, “Flopper, the island hopper.” Ali~
I like Flopper! I hope readers sung along to the Flipper theme song. I just had to add it, since many have forgotten that famous TV theme song. Although, it should not be used as an entry of course. Just havin’ fun.
