Library renovation soon come

Like the weather, folks have been talking about the need to refurbish the Elaine I. Sprauve Library for years, but nobody did much about it.  Meanwhile, the building has decayed, cracked, and looked like it’s been abandoned.  But now, something’s happening.

An almost $700,000 refurbishing, courtesy of the Public Finance Authority, is about to begin, according to a report by the St. John Source.  Plans are to move critical elements of the facility, including best sellers, children’s books, DVDs and a computer to an office trailer at the Enighed site.  The ‘satellite’ library will be operating in the middle of May.  The refurbishing, including air conditioning, new electrical, windows, doors and more is expected to take six months.

The Source said the existing library building was originally the Enighed Plantation great house, built around 1842.
