8 Tuff Miles is becoming a tough ticket

The 8 Tuff Miles race is less than two months away.

Online registration for off-island runners ended a few weeks ago but, according to organizers of the Feb. 27 road race, demand is still very strong.

"Stateside people are freaking out.  "It's looking like (the race) is going to sell out sooner than we thought," said Peter Alter, the race founder and organizer. The only place to register in person on St. John  is at the Tap Room.

Competitors have already begun training for the race, which begins at the National Park Service headquarters, courses across the ridge of the island via Centerline Road, and ends near Skinny Legs in Coral Bay.  The awards ceremony will be at Mongoose Junction.

On the race's Facebook page, a runner named Technomadia wrote, "Just got back from a hike in training prep. Whew. 3.5 miles up/down Bordeaux Mountain, most of it straight up or down hill! Think we have the hill part down. Now to work on distance & endurance."

We’re two full time tech-nomads (full time travelers who work online) who are wintering on St. John through the end of March, and we’re absolutely loving this island, the people and the food!
We’ll be keeping an eye on your site for news of interesting things going on around. Thanks for keeping this space, and Happy New Year!
