St. John-friendly magazine to close

CoversThe publisher of Caribbean Travel + Life is halting publication after the January/February issue.

Bonnier Corp. said another of its magazines will try to pick to the slack by adding increasing frequency to 10 times a years and produce two Caribbean-themed issues, in May and November.

Bonnier publishes almost 50 other magazines including Florida Travel + Life, Popular Photograohy, and Sport Fishing.

The closing should not have been a surprise said AdWeek. "Through the first nine months of the year, ad pages declined 14 percent to 154 versus the year-ago period, per Publishers Information Bureau," the trade publication reported.

St. John photographer Steve Simonsen was saddened by the decision closing CT+L.

“Looking back through the years at some of the covers we were fortunate to have with Caribbean Travel and Life magazine,” he said on his Facebook page. “It was always so fantastic to put the Virgin Islands on the cover of a great magazine time and time again.”

  1. Sad to hear. I remember sitting in my office back in the States, at a job I hated, reading CT&L and daydreaming about moving to the Caribbean. Well, a few years later when I could no longer stand the miserable job and the fever and inspiration provided by CT&L became strong enough…..I packed up and moved to STJ. I intended to stay 6-12 months and stayed for nearly 7 years.
Sad to see my inspiration go 🙁
