JJ’s Texas Coast
Toa B
If there's one thing I learned during my stay in the U.S. Virgin Island is that food here is simply bad. Seriously, even if you're paying $300/night at a resort & spa like we did, the food was just plain bad. JJ's Texas is no different. When compared to restaurants from the states, this place wouldn't register on the radar but … for St. John, this place isn't too bad. He gives JJ's 3 1/2 stars out of 5. More reviews of JJ's.
Grotto Deli

Love love love this place…amazing Tofu sandwich and awesome Chai Tea. The deserts look amazing too. Perfect place for an easy lunch or breakfast or even to pick up and take to the beach.” She gives the Deli at Mongoose Junction five stars out of five. More reviews of the Deli.
Woody's Seafood Saloon

Burgers…awesome. Drinks… Good. Vibe… Old man and the sea. Think of an "island dive bar"… At the mouth of one of the few harbors on this side of the island, Skinny's services the sailor and frequent tourist. Although its gone down hill since Mo left and Doug took over (staff not as friendly, prices went up, portions went down), it's worth the trek. It's like the pair of sneakers that you wear to cut the lawn but your wife won't let you wear in public. He gives Woody's five stars out of five. More reviews of Woody's.

Ocean Grill

It was a rainy day and we picked this place because it was close to where we were, they were actually open for lunch, and the hotel recommended it…. It was such a pleasant surprise! My husband and i both got the beef and chili tacos which were delicious! We also decided on dessert because we were told it was homemade. We were not disappointed with the gelato and cheesecake. Its a little pricey but like everywhere in st.john. She gives it four stars out of five. More reviews of Ocean Grill.

Toa B sounds like a first-time visitor who didnt have the right information about where to go. Having been to St John several times, I would say that the food is really great, actually. I dont want to hold it against him that he stayed in a $300/night resort & spa, but to me that dictates what type of experience you are going to have. I bet he didnt even have a rental car.
In any event, with Tropical Shipping jacking rates, fuel costs set to skyrocket (Hovensa is jumping the rack rate) and a real estate market “approaching post-Hugo lows,” expect quality to go down and price to go up for all eateries. Why do you think Craig and Sally bailed out? Some would like to blame others (the landlord), but the reality of $0.650/KWH electricity is on the horizon. Couple that with exhorbitant costs of shipping decent food . . .
