New restaurant at the Marketplace

GgA longtime island bartender and chef has struck out on his own.

Allen Lancaster has taken over the Marketplace location that most recently was Black Sand Bistro and opened his own place.  Initial reviews are positive.  Not only is the food good, they say, but it's reasonably priced.

The Tradewinds described the menu as a "culinary collision of refined gastronomy and traditional English 'pub grub'."

"It is nice to have a reasonably priced restaurant that is casual and not just burgers and fried food on the island," said Betty on a tourism forum. "

Julie added, "After more than year, there’s finally a restaurant in Love City serving up the kind of home cooking you always wished your mom would make."

One of the first customers added, "They have vegetarian/tofu Buffalo wings and even the carnivores liked them. Excellent spinach salad, flank steak, Mac and Cheese, Ahi Sliders, everyone was pleased with their selections."

Previously, Lancaster was doing Gastrogrub at the Tamarind Inn, one night a week.  He's also tended bar at the Waterfront Bistro and la Plancha del Mar.

  1. Monday night and we just returned from Gastrogrub. Great food and drinks and it was a treat to find someone open on a Monday night in the off season.
The sliders were delicious and the Meatloaf Wellington was soul food with an added twist.
Congratulations Allen and thanks to all the staff for a great meal.
Did I mention the chocolate mousse was a sweet treat to end the evening.
    We shall return. M&M
