Virgin Islands National Park Offering Two Great Weekly Programs

Virgin Islands National Park - Weekly Programs
(File photo, September 2018)

The Virgin Islands National Park offers several great programs throughout the year. They are currently offering the following two programs each week.

Night Sky Watch: Explore the dark skies and bright stars along with representative from the Virgin Islands National Park. The presentation happens every Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Peace Hill, which is located along North Shore Road between Hawksnest and Jumbie bays. The Park will bring a telescope and will introduce you to the beautiful stars and constellations after a brief introductory presentation.

There is a short hike uphill – one-tenth of a mile – to reach Peace Hill. There is loose rock along the way, so please bring a flashlight and comfortable shoes. Feel free to bring a blanket or chair to sit on as well. The program lasts one hour, and no reservations are needed. This program runs through July 3.

Feathers of Francis Bay: Discover the bird life in the Francis Bay area from the seashore to dry forest. This presentation happens every Friday at 7:30 a.m. and will continue through July 26. Meet the ranger at the Francis Bay trailhead and wear comfortable shoes as there will be some walking involved. Contact Laurel Brannick at (340) 776-6201, extension 238 for more information.

Reef Bay Hike: This hike is currently not running, but is expected to resume later this year. As of now, you can take a self guided hike down the 2.6 mile trail, but you will have to hike back up. This is not an easy hike, so please be prepared with ample water, bug spray and sunscreen.

We can take you to the petroglyphs, which are located at the bottom of Reef Bay, during our combination land and sea tour. You can visit the ancient rock carvings during the boat portion of the tour, but please know that it includes a small swim to shore and a roughly 45 minute hike to the petroglyphs. Please contact me at [email protected] for more information. Please visit www.newsofstjohn.com/islandtours for more information on our island tours.

  1. Do you know if there is reliable taxi service from the night sky Peace Hill meet up spot? We are visiting but without a car rental and would like to see this event. I know that getting there would not be an issue it would be the after event… thank you.

    • Hi Katie, I would suggest reaching out to the National Park. My guess is that they have something set up for this.
