Hello everyone and happy Wednesday! We made it to mid-week! Yahoo!
So yesterday, we told you all how it’s whale season down here in the Virgin Islands. We received a lot of questions on this, so we decided to give you some additional details today.
The question we received most was, where can I see them? In a nutshell, anywhere and everywhere. The whales do not tend to hang out in one particular area, so keep your eyes peeled.
In the past, I have seen them in many areas around St. John. The first time I ever saw them I was on the car barge going from St. John to St. Thomas. I was sitting on Honeymoon one day a few years back and saw them breaching off of Mingo Cay. And the most amazing experience I ever had with the whales was back in 2016 when I was out boating with Busy Bee. We had just finished a snorkel stop near Tektite when we saw a humpback whale do a full breach out of the water. It was magical. I was so excited that I didn’t even get a photo. I did get a quick live image of one diving back down into the water. Here is that:
Whales were spotted near Salt Pond yesterday. Our friends over at Flyaway Charters when to look for them, but were unable to spot them. The folks over at Just Fish were lucky enough to see some the other day at North Drop. Here is an image they posted over on our Facebook page.
And here is a quick little map to show you I’ve spotted them. The red stars show where I have personally seen them in recent years, and the yellow star is where they were seen yesterday.
So again, keep your eyes peeled everyone! You can see them from land or by boat. And if you are lucky enough to see them, please let us know!
Have a great day everyone!
We have a full day charter booked with Flyaway Charters the first week of March. Can’t wait. I put in a request for whale sightings…:)

Thanks! We’ll have our heads on a swivel. Hope to provide you with some pics.
