Hurricane to miss St. John (hopefully)

While the mainland cleans up from Irene, Hurricane Katia is on the move across the Atlantic.

Map
Katia's maximum sustained winds are 75 miles an hour, making it a Category 1 hurricane.  "Some strengthening is forecast during the next two days … and Katia could become a major hurricane by the weekend," the National Hurricane Center said Thursday morning.

St. John is likely to feel the effect of the storm passing with bands of rain Sunday afternoon and into Monday.  Katia is expected to pass about 350 miles to the northeast.

Keep up with the storm through the NHC's Web site.
