Friends of the Park auction not done yet

The Friends of VI National Park Online Auction event was a success!

There were 53 items offered and all but two were sold.  The most popular categories were Art and Unique Experiences, like sunset sails, snorkel cruises and kayak tours.

PlavcematsA seven-night bare boat sailing charter on a 54-footer was the most expensive item.  The donor, VIP Yachts, valued the deal at $9,100.  The buyer got it for $5,100.

A few items sold for more than their value.  A Pamper Package at the Grapevine Salon, estimated worth $160, went for $195.

And four locally-made  quilted place-mats, napkins and coasters were bought for $123. Their value was set at $70.

The auction has been extended for one item which apparently drew no bids during the original effort. A two-bedroom villa timeshare at the Westin Resort is on offer now – and it's perfect for the well-heeled person who makes holiday vacation plans at the last minute. The timeshare is for Christmas and New Year's weeks this year, Dec. 18- Jan. 1.  The Friends say it's worth $16,000.

Proceeds from this year's online auction, which ended last weekend, were $28,350, a tiny bit greater than last year's take of $28,001.
