Want to get a better idea of how the VI government does, doesn’t, or should work? If you’re on island next week, attending a Pre-Primary Candidates Forum would be a first-hand way for you to see the island’s politics up closed and personal.
The Forum is sponsored by the Coral Bay Community Council. It will be at the Westin Resort, Aug. 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. “This will be an early opportunity for the public to find out about the candidates and their positions on issues of local concern,” the Council said in a news release.
Among those invited to appear are the three St. Johnians have thrown their hats into the ring for the chance to compete against incumbent Carmen Wesselhoft for the At Large Senate seat in the VI Legislature. The include Craig Barshinger, who was defeated by Wesselhoft last year; Loreli Monsanto, a long-time community activist who also operates a retail shop at the Bordeaux Overlook, and Harry Daniel, a former Virgin Islands police sergeant and special assistant to the U.S. Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress. The primary is scheduled for Sept. 13.
I think this year should be easy to pick your candidate to vote for. Anyone new couldn’t be any worse than the officials we have now. Any elected official who would allow wapa to increase their rates 24% in the last 15 months should look for a new hobby
