USA TODAY profiles St. John/Peter Bay resident Kenny Chesney, reporting the singer has two homes in the islands. (Interestingly, the piece mentions only the Caribbean, never St. John. Same anonymity in a Washington Post pan of the new album this morning. Suggests Chesney’s baked in the sun too long and lost his drive. Must be the islands, ‘mon :).
His new album released this week, with lyrics like,
"I’ve watched boats sail in and out of Cinnamon Bay" and a mention of the Quiet Mon Pub,on the second floor above La Tapa.
The new CD’s title is "Be As You Are". You can audition tracks here.
Country Music Television is also playing an hour-long show this week featuring Chesney. "Fans will be treated to intimate, acoustic performances of his new songs, video footage of his favorite island getaway and reflections on what the islands mean to him," the cable channel’s program puff says. Here’s the broadcast schedule.

Kenny Chesney has just lost his BIGGEST FAN EVER! I hate him now and threw away everything I had that has to do with him, and deleted everything off my computer like my background and screen saver and pictures! I ripped up my pictures of him and scratched his name out of everything I ever wrote it on, like pretty much everything in my house! I no longer call my self Stacy Chesney or anything like that or write I love Kenneth Arnold Chesney! on everything anymore! I love Kenny Chesney. He is an amazing singer and songwriter. So what the fact that he got married? In fact I am glad he finally found that special someone. No, Im not a big fan of Renee but I wish them both happiness in the future. You should never wish that people are miserable the rest of their life. I wish the both of them the absolute best. I knew only a few months after dating my now husband that I loved him and would marry and spend the rest of my life with him. From day one we had heart to heart soul searching discussions. We talk about everythin. I knew more about him in a couple months than the guy I dated for 9 years. You know when it is right. It’s so cruel that people are using this platform to judge another person’s happiness. If he marries someone, it’s his choice. It was a choice they both made, outside of the busy spotlight of their hectic lives. Let them be. How could anyone be a fan and then recind that based on a marriage? The fact that he is married does not decrease your perception of his talent, does it? To hold on to a fantasy that someone you’ve never met, spoken to, or even seen, will fall for you is childish at best, and a bit psycho at its’ worst.

Most of the postings are of a positive nature. Being a “new” fan of Kenny, since my daughter has liked him for a while now…I bought tickets to see him the beginning of April. My daughter and I were invited to the backstage “Meet & Greet” and met Kenny and Uncle Kracker plus many of the band members from their bands and Gretchen’s band as well. It was a delight to have “rubbed” elbows with these music icons…however, just for the record…they are just like You and Me. The only thing that makes them special is that they have taken their talents and brought their words and songs to the spotlight for all to enjoy. Getting a hug (and my daughter getting a hug and a peck on the cheek) made our concert experience complete! We didn’t even recognize him backstage at first because he had his glasses on, a ball cap, a tank top, shorts and flip flops on…he really blended in with the small crowd…so he’s really a regular guy when he’s not performing…really down to earth…and that’s probably the greatest appeal to his popularity. Best wishes to the newlyweds….you both deserve your long awaited happiness. p.s. We have tickets for June…and looking forward to seeing him in concert again…as a married guy! 🙂 Mom in Michigan

Having lived on St. John, it is the perfect place to have people respect your privacy…they seem like the perfect couple…anytime you are a movie star that can get married with your hair in a ponytail and barefoot on the beach really shows the rest of the world that there is more out there than the shallow, materialistic society we call america.
