I was Facetiming my parents in Connecticut last night when Mama News of St. John mentioned how loud the “peepers,” as she calls them, were in the background. The “peepers” as she refers to them are actually tree frogs and have been especially loud over the past few weeks since we’ve received a good amount of rain. I love the “peepers” too and thought you all might enjoy hearing a bit of what the island sounds like at night. Enjoy.
Ps: Yes, it’s slow season. 🙂
Jenn,
Thanks for sharing the “peepers”! Sometimes I just need a little STJ fix and you gave it to me this morning!
Cheers!
Janice
I love the “Peepers” (their sounds anyway). They aren’t so adorable to look at.
I missed them when we stayed on the Coral Bay side of the island and didn’t hear them.
Taking my lunch break – Just listened to them again. Oh how I love that sound and look forward to hearing them in person with you in November.
Thanks Jenn!
Mama News of St. John’s 1st post!! Love it!!!
See you in a few weeks! xoxo
Tree frogs are regulars in the garden shower! Glad to hear them now that there is some moisture for them.
I too love that sound. Now I am feeling calm and at peace and cannot wait until next July when we return. Thank you for giving me a little of paradise while sitting at my computer.
Missing St. John,

On island now. Sat outside and listened to them last night. My favorite sound in the world!!
Your mom probably called them peepers because that’s what they’re really called here! (I live in Connecticut, too, although I wish I was living in STJ.) They’re Spring Peepers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_peeper
Where in CT are you Lisa? I grew up in Milford 🙂
I’m in Andover, about 30 mins east of Hartford, out toward UCONN. Small world! Need any help at the news desk? I’m just itching to move to STJ and leave these winters behind! 🙂
That is quiet noise, good for babies to sleep with, surely the sounds of the Islands are lovely.
One of my favorite sounds on the island.
