The Virgin Islands government says it has a plan to make room for 150 parking spaces at the Enighed commercial port. That’s where the car barges now operate.
But before the plan becomes reality, the government needs … wait for it … money.
Darryl Smalls, the Public Works commissioner, says the funds are included in a recently authorized $87 million bond issue, but the money’s not in hand.
The St. John Source has a full report on Smalls’ comments at a hearing about an island Transportation Master Plan. (Read it here.)
He also said there’s a plan to add a parking garage, which has been talked about for years. There reportedly is a plan for a building near Enighed which would offer parking and be the site of a new Post Office.
