Well folks, we are super excited to tell you that 8 Tuff Miles is coming back “officially” in 2019!! More normalcy coming back to the island… woohoo!
For those of you unfamiliar with 8 Tuff Miles, it’s a pretty intense road race that starts behind the National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay and ends at the ball field in Coral Bay. The race, or walk for some folks, begins and ends at sea level, and reaches an elevation of 1,000 feet along the way. The course is 8.3 miles and winds along Centerline Road.
There are numerous water stations along the way, and News of St. John is proud to sponsor the final one out at mile 8. We have water and Gatorade for our true runners, and a variety of shots for our less serious runners … cheers! It’s a super fun event whether you’re a participant or a spectator. And if you happen to be on island, but don’t want to partake in the actual race but you want to participate somehow, please join us out at mile 8. Just email me at [email protected] for the details.
I just realized that I haven’t even mentioned the actual date … oops! The 23rd annual 8 Tuff Miles will be held on Saturday, February 23rd at 7:15 a.m. Online registration is currently open and can be accessed here. In person registration begins December 1st. We will let you know the locations for that once they’re announced.
The 2017 race was “cancelled” although it still happened in an unofficial capacity. (That’s why we love it here so much!!) More than 200 people participated and it was such a great time! Click here to read all about it and to see some pics.
Have a great day everyone!!
Even though I knew it was coming it is heartwarming to read this news!!
