The folks behind 8 Tuff Miles put out a brief announcement on their Facebook page yesterday and we thought we would pass it along – With only 169 days to go until race day, it’s probably time to start making your travel plans now.
For those of you unfamiliar with 8 Tuff Miles, it’s an amazing eight-mile course that begins at sea level, cruises up to an elevation of 999 feet, and then heads back down to sea level. The race is so intense that there’s roughly 1,400 feet in elevation gain in the first five-and-a-half miles. (I don’t know about all of you, but I will be quite content cheering everyone on from the finish line. But major kudos to all of you who have participated or plan to participate!)
To give you an idea of just how intense this event is, please check out this course video that event founder Peter Alter made using Google Earth. (Disclaimer: This video describes the 2013 event, but the course will remain the same for 2014. Disclaimer #2: We posted this video earlier this year, but we figured it was cool enough to repost.)
The race is scheduled for Saturday, February 22. Online registration will open on October 1 via www.Active.com and local registration will begin on December 1 at The Tap Room in Mongoose Junction. And as always, race spots are limited.
The theme of the 2014 race is “College Days” so participants should plan on wearing their favorite college gear and/or college colors. And most importantly, plan on doing some major tailgating.
The race is being held during President’s Week, which is a pretty busy time on the island. So if you are planning to compete or cheer on the amazing participants, you might want to book your tickets, vehicle rental and villa rental now before it’s too late.
