While the St. Thomas airport is where we spend most of our time on the big island, in earlier days we did some sightseeing there, too.
Like many people, we visited Mountain Top, from which you can see 20 islands and get in the island spirit at its bar specializing bin its “World Famous Banana Daiquiri.”
Well, if by some chance you haven’t been there and done that, you're out of luck. The 60-year-old Virgin Islands institution went up in flames Monday night.
The five-alarm blaze exhausted the St. Thomas Fire Department’s water trucks and private haulers were called in to help. In its report of the blaze, the Virgin Islands Daily News said no other buildings caught fire. There were no reported injuries, nor was any cause of the fire offered.
