Island food and wine fest is Saturday

St. John Rotary's
annual fundraiser, Flavors, is set for tomorrow night at the Westin Resort from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. This is the island's food festival and features offerings from many of St. John's finest restaurants.

Executive Chair Katherine Steinborn say there's lots new at this year's event.  For starters, it's in the resort's air conditioned ballroom.  In past years, Flavors has been outside under tents, often uncomfortably warm.

Categories of competition include appetizers, entree, dessert and overall best presentation.  In an effort to broaden the number of eateries participating, two new categories have been added: mixology and bar food. This means, for example, Woody's and the Beach Bar could contest with Zozo's or Asolare for best Pina Colada.

Steinborn also said West Indies, the beverage distributor on St. Thomas, is bringing winemakers who will be pouring their own so nthere will be as much variety in food tastings as in wines.

Tickets at the door will be $100.  All proceeds go to fund Rotary's college scholarship program.
