Tomorrow is, by far, my favorite holiday of the year both here on St. John and back when I live in good ole Connecticut. If you are lucky enough to be on island, there is so, so much to do! Here is a rundown of all the fun…
J’Ouvert
The party begins at sunrise with J’ouvert, which is essentially one big crazy street party. I’m not sure the exact route for this one it typically starts over near the National Park Visitor’s Center and winds through the streets of Cruz Bay. There’s live music and dancing, and it shouldn’t be missed! Here’s a quick video from two years ago:
Last year’s J’ouvert had a water truck and lots of paint … we heard it was an amazing time!!
The Parade
The parade allegedly starts at 11 a.m. It begins at the National Park Visitor’s Center, past Mongoose Junction and down toward Carnival Village. It goes past the Village toward the beach and then past the gazebo and the park. The best performances happen over there because that’s where the governor and all the “fancy” people usually sit. From there it goes up towards Woody’s and then toward the roundabout.
The Fireworks
The fireworks start at 9 p.m. and typically go off pretty close to schedule. This happens right over Cruz Bay. Ocean 362, The Terrace, DRINK, Cruz Bay Watersports and many other businesses are holding special firework events. If you prefer not to attend one of these events, bring a beach towel and hang out on Cruz Bay beach or grab a drink at The Beach Bar, Joe’s Rum Hut or High Tide.
The Village
There’s some pretty good music happening to close out Festival. The Ah We Band, Cool Sessions Brass, MX Prime, Destra, Farmer Nappy and Orlando Octave are schedule to perform.
We’re going to do our best to post lots of live videos over on our Facebook page throughout the day. So please check it out periodically.
We hope you all have a happy and safe holiday!
