WAPA Implements Emergency Feeder Rotations on St. Thomas
On Sunday, August 3, generating units #14 and #18, at the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s Randolph Harley Power Plant failed to operate. Repair crews assessed the units and determined extensive repairs were warranted. Based on the need to provide service to all customers, emergency feeder rotations were immediately implemented on 2-3 hour rotation schedules. Throughout the day, the feeder loads can peak or dip making it extremely difficult to predict an advance schedule, as was the case on Sunday. However, the rotation schedule was monitored throughout Sunday, to determine the best available resources for Monday, August 4, in order to publish a rotation schedule.
Rotations will be conducted in a manner to ensure service is retained by as many residential and commercial customers as possible. The below tentative feeder rotation schedule is subject to change.
