After an April fire destroyed his business, John Hiebert is asking the St. John community for help.
Café Roma was gutted April 21 after an air conditioning unit caught fire during off hours. The building itself was insured; however, Hiebert only held liability insurance for the business. Because the fire was deemed accidental and occurred while Café Roma was closed, Hiebert will not receive any insurance money to help him rebuild.
He is now asking the public for help.
The building’s owner plans to install a new roof, air conditioning unit, tile, plumbing and electrical work, Hiebert said, but it will be his responsibility to outfit the kitchen with new equipment, along with purchasing everything from new fixtures to furniture for the dining room and bar area. Hiebert is also looking for skilled people to help with the rebuild.
If you are able to help the folks at Café Roma with any of the above-mentioned items, please contact John here. You can also make a monetary donation via PayPal here.
Hiebert, who recently received the St. John Small Business of the Year Award, hopes to reopen Café Roma on October 1.
