Victor Provost has wrapped up two years running the Urban Arts Center in Virginia Beach and has now moved on to Pittsburgh. One of the favorite sons of the island, Provost is an internationally known steel pan performer. Now, he waits to begin studies at the Northern Illinois University School of Music Jazz Studies program, while living in western Pennsylvania. “I’ll be performing locally with several groups including Mark Lucas (guitarist) and continue to explore more national and international exposure,” Provost said. His next Pittsburgh shows will be Swept. 12 and 20th at Martini’s Restaurant.
Over the summer, he got plenty of ‘exposure.’ In June, he played 14 shows at Lincoln Center in New York, was a featured guest at the Mannette Festival of Steel in Morgantown, WV, and did 23 performances in 10 days at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy. No wonder he’s taking some time to rest up.
