We have some fantastic news to share with all of you today … our beloved little slice of heaven is finally turning green again! There are leaves sprouting on trees and the grass is starting to turn green again. It’s so exciting!
As you all probably know, St. John has been in a pretty brutal drought for the past six months or so. But over the past few weeks, we’ve gotten some decent rain here and there, and the island has benefitted greatly. While we didn’t get the rain we expected from Hurricane Danny or Tropical Storm Erika, we did get enough to green up the place. See for yourself:

And here’s a pretty shot we took yesterday from the Caneel Bay overlook:
I did notice that Mary Point is still lacking some much needed rain, but it too is slowly getting green. It’s just not as green as some other places on island.

We were there in June and it was so brown, but still beautiful. I think we need a “do-over” 🙂
Beautiful beautiful STJ
Thanks for posting these photos. We were there most of May and St. John was pretty brittle then. It’s so easy to complain about the weather, including rain (I should know, I’m from coastal Massachusetts!), but photos like these remind me to be grateful.
I thought this would be an update on new draught beers, but instead it’s even better new about the drought. 😉
You would think one of these days I’d get it right lol
Great! Just in time for our vacation next week!!! We love Saint John!
Great pics of the difference a bit a rain will make. However, Hawksnest is not on Centerline Road. ????
Holy moly you are right! This is why I shouldn’t write before drinking my coffee. Two mistakes today! 🙂
Thanks for posting these photos. After the rains the island glistens.
Git riddy fer the skeeters! 😉
Hallelujah!!!
Moving in Sept. to Centerline Rd. waiting for USVI to get us permits for our birds. We were there in July. Funny thing was the water trucks blowing there horns all day. Can’t wait a couple of weeks in we live in paradise
Hey Dan,
Had to reply. What a coincidence.
We have a little cottage on Centerline and are planning our move there in the next 2 years or so. We also heard the trucks; first time ever in all the years I’ve been visiting.
Where on Centerline are you if you don’t mind my asking?
STJ – the emerald beauty of the Caribbean!
Brown or green, there is no place better!
Pray 4 more rain!
