St. John Rescue is getting some help from St. John Rotary.
The all-volunteer emergency services organization on the island has been seeking a medical oxygen generator. Accident victims and seriously ill people can need supplemental oxygen while being transported for critical care treatments.
Rotary Club of St. John adopted the challenge of raising about $68,000 for the equipment. John Fuller, a Rotary member headed up the project and worked with clubs in Puerto Rico, and West Virginia which contributed to the project. Several thousand dollars also have come from St. Johnians. The balance of the money has been made available by the Rotary Foudnation.
The oxygen generator, Fuller said, "will support all first responders on the island including the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center, EMTs, the fire department and the National Park.
Fuller expects the equipmenrt to be installed before the end of the year.
