Health & Happiness Event Tomorrow

Most people want to be healthy and happy. And where better to celebrate than Love City? Partnering with the St. John Cancer Fund and the St. John Youth Coalition, Sisterhood Agenda will celebrate health and happiness in St. John on Friday, May 16, 2014 and invites you to join them in Franklin Powell Park from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be music, giveaways, and announcements to encourage healthy living. Giveaways include magnets, recipes, food guides, bookmarks, fitness information, and local resources. Many resources are also available in Spanish. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

“This event is a celebration of life and wellness. We live on one of the most beautiful islands in the world, but not all of us are healthy. We can learn to heal and be happy,” said Angela Coleman, Founding President of Sisterhood Agenda and founder of the St. John Youth Coalition.

Mary Bartolucci, founding board member of the St. John Cancer Fund, said, “We are very happy to partner with Sisterhood Agenda and the St. John Youth Coalition to get this important information to the community. We want everyone to know that there are resources available for those with cancer.”

St. John Youth Coalition representative, Shelley Williams added, “Learning about good health starts early to develop healthy habits as adults, especially regarding substance abuse and prevention.”

The St. John Cancer Fund provides financial assistance to St. Johnians in their fight against cancer. The mission of the St. John Youth Coalition to empower youth to be healthy, happy, and successful. This is the third year that Sisterhood Agenda will distribute health information as part of its SHE: Sisters Healthy & Empowered program and celebration of National Women’s Health Week. This is the first year that the St. John Cancer Fund is participating and the St. John Youth Coalition is new.

St. John Youth Coalition members include: Sisterhood Agenda, St. John Community Foundation, Julius E. Sprauve School, Gifft Hill School, Guy Benjamin School, Love City Pan Dragons, Myrah Keating Community Health Center, Coral Bay Community Council, VI Sports, Parks & Recreation Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Catholic Charities, VI Police Department, VI Daily News, CBS Channel 2, Callaloo Restaurant, and Rotary of St. John Interact. New members are welcome.
