Sure, there are lots of lists of ‘Best Restaurants’. But what about ‘Best Bars’?
Kaniacarpentry is getting ready for an islands visit and asked folks on TripAdvisor for thoughts about the best place for an end-of-day cool down.
Spyglass at Wharfside got kudos from JenM and Jmass10. Jen liked the “very cheap but tasty tacos.” Jmass10 praised the $2 Cruzan Rum drinks, $5 sliders and hot wings.
Castaways in Cruz Bay was another of Jmass10’s faves for its $1 Miller Lites and well drinks every day from 3pm to 6pm. Jmass10 really got around, too. He also found $1 drinks at Banana Deck from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, $3 drinks at Joe’s Rum Hut and two-for-one well drinks at Gecko Gazebo from 4:20pm to 5:30pm.
It sounds like BostontoSTT had the best time researching the subject. “Beach Bar was our favorite Happy Hour. But I don’t remember what they offered. Go figure.”
As Karrieb summed it up: “The entire island is one big happy Hour IMO.”

Check out High Tide Bar and Seafood Grill located 2 stumbles from and to the ferry dock. Also voted Best Happy Hour 2013 by the Daily News which had over 100,000 votes for the island of St John.
It would be great if from noon-10PM there was a coordinated effort so that 1) bar had happy hour between noon-1PM, another between 1-2PM, there are obviously a ton of places that do 3-6 (seems like everyone competing against themselves), then 7-9, and 9-10? This way everyone gets a piece of the business and tourists can booze and eat from place to place…
Jenn? Time for an updated version of this? I’d love to request an update if you happen to want to do the research!
Have you written one lately?
Had a good lunch at Spyglass. Enjoyed the rum and coke pulled pork sandwich. The view from the covered, outdoor, second floor dining area is excellent, overlooking Cruz Bay. Kudos to the owner for the great new wave soundtrack. Children of the 80’s will be happy!
