One small step for VI tourism’s been taken with the beginning of a greeter program at the Cruz bay dock which is now used by visitors from cruise ships. The Department of Tourism effort began last week. D±OT hopes to add greeters also for people arriving at the ferry dock.
Two people were welcoming visitors by handing out information about the island as well as offering sips of Cruzan Rum, similar to the greeters who meet arrivals at the St. Thomas airport.
"They are getting a very positive response,” said Kate Norfleet, who heads up the St. John chapter of the Chamber of Commerce. “Hats off to Tourism and everyone who has worked so patiently to make this happen. They are using a gaily decorated table until (a) Welcome Cart is done.” A Tourism department spokesperson said plans are to have the greeters working daily form 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
We will make sure we arrive during those hours at the dock. It is a great way start a vaction.
