Spirit Airlines has landed. The low-cost airline began offering nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale to St. Thomas last week, funneling island-bound passengers from its other airports including Washington/Reagen and New York/LaGuardia.
One-way coach seats start at $99.
The first plane was met by government officials, and a mocko jumbie on stilts. Spirit operates Airbus 319 equipment, two classes of service, all leather seats. The new flights are scheduled to arrive daily at King Airport at 2:35pm and depart at 3:35pm, according to the Virgin Islands Daily News.
so spirit airlines flies to st.thomas. wow good news for the tourism board of the virgin islands, but bad news for st.croix(as always) when is the bureaucratic-red taped gov’t of the VI recognized that stx has a better landing runway and has the potential to become an international hub. as long as i visit the islands i would rather fly into san juan to get to st.croix instead of that accident ready stt airport…things need to change and st.croix always gets the short end of the stick.
maybe stx needs to start their own airline that will service cities such as miami, jfk and ord(chicago) or maybe someone should come up with a kick-ass marketing campaign that would put st.croix on the map….c’mon folks its been 18 years since hugo ( and i lived thru it) and st.croix needs its reward……HELP STX
SORRY I FORGOT ST.JOHN…. shame on the VI port authority for not letting the air st.john taxi fly………i guess instead of us.virgin islands it should be called ST.THOMAS-AMERICAS NEW PARADISE…….
