We love Gallows and love the store and the coffee bar. I hope the great tradition continues!! We always have them add some provisions to our room so they’re there for us when we arrive. It’s a great service they provide.
We have been here for 4 vacations and love Gallows Point so much–we sure have loved this shop too and hope so much it stays there!! We love St. John so!!
Does anyone remember Duke and Kay Ellington from the old Gallows Point, many moons ago??
my parents talk about duke and kay ellington – they honeymooned at gallows point in 1960. duke was a writer. he wrote many published mysteries. stone cold dead in the marketplace was one i know of. duke bought the property with the agreement that he would make improvements on it – so he built several little hotel rooms on stilts. there was the pink house, the yellow house and the grey tree house. the beach there was rocky so my parents would walk over the mountain on a trail to honeymoon beach. duke was an actor before he started writing and had many interesting people from all over the world that would come to visit. i remember my mom telling me a sailboat came from france to come and see him once. that was a big deal at the time as there was hardly anyone on st. john. he acted on broadway -was a handsome, tall man – very hemingwayesque. his wife kay was very sweet and attractive. hope this helps.
