Today I am Very Thankful…

hawksnest

Today I am thankful for life. St. John weathered the strongest hurricane on record on September 6th. The insurance adjusters from Lloyd’s of London determined, after much research, that Coral Bay had sustained winds of 206 mph and gusts of 276 mph. And despite those horrific winds, only one life was lost.

Rest in peace Captain Richard Benson. We will all miss you and your beloved Goddess Athena.

I am thankful for this community. I am thankful for the people of St. John. To watch everyone come together over the past 11 weeks has been simply awe-inspiring.

I am thankful for all of you who reside stateside and are eager to return to St. John, who are eager to spend your hard-earned dollars here in an effort to rebuild our economy. Thank you.

I am thankful for the linemen and all of the relief workers who are without their families today because they chose to come and help our community. Thank you so very much.

To the families of the linemen and relief workers who are here on island, I thank you all too for sharing your loved ones with our community this Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. There’s certainly a lot to be thankful for this year.
