The arrival of Eco Serendib got the Inquiring Iguana wondering how expensive can villa rentals be on the island?  The answer is very!

Eco Serendib is  near the high money mark – today.  For $20,000 a week in low season (high season may be 70% more, we hear) you get eight bedrooms, three cisterns, an organic vegetable garden, and all the other stuff: TV sets, infinity pool, air conditioning, master dining room, yada yada yada.

What about other villas?

An informal survey of villa management companies and rental agents has turned up a number of other high priced offerings for your summer getaway.

Alamer Until now, A La Mer has been considered the highest-priced spread on the island. our $28,500 on off season gives you the keys to seven bedrooms in the main house and cottage, enough space to sleep 22 people.  Features include the usual luxuries plus Sirius/XM radio and three washing machines. Presidio.jph Presidio del Mar at Peter Bay is one.  This six bedroom compound on the point and on the water, can be your pied a terre for a week for $23,000, off season.  Most of the suites have an 'alfresco garden shower'. OK for families with kids but  a "notarized liability waiver is required for all children under 16 years." The villa boasts nine satellite TVs, a mini-fridge in each bedroom,  and a workout room with an eliptical trainer and weights. The villa's Web site is here.

 


Kismet Kismet, with five bedrooms, sits atop a hill overlooking both Great Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole.  Off season, $17,000/week.  "Five Star Services Intimately Provided" is the watchword.  The estate is protected by a security system with an electrically operated gate; smoking is permitted in the billiard room,but no where else, and there is a home theater with a 565-inch LED TV with access to a server holding 700 DVDs.  The villa's Web site is here.
