This is still a serious situation and I urge everyone to follow the restrictions. Although the healthcare system is coping, it doesn’t take much of a spike to overwhelm it (with restrictions, the rate of spread is significantly lower).
Here are the stats for Sunday, 8/30:
* The USVI’s weekly average of new cases per day is 26 per 100K.
* Although this is a small drop in the last week (-15%), it is still the 6th highest in the US. The USVI has not left the top 10 in several weeks.
* Positive tests are 10.4% (you want it lower than 5%) while the number of test given has dropped by 31.2% (not a good number but could be the result of the storm).
*About 200 positive results in the last week.
The USVI only has 2 hospitals – with 184 licensed beds and only about 19 critical care beds (this is very low compared to the rest of the US and when you think how hard it is to transfer a patient to another facility).
Please “Stay Positive and Test Negative.” I want to come back and visit soon.
Testing is flawed.
Our deaths in the VI are 93% nursing home with at least 2 other morbidity factors. None of our deaths are healthy or semi healthy. None.
Time to open up now. We have treatments. Our government must talk to us doctors and stop listening to their wives
