One of the challenges of building a home on St. John is getting supplies, building materials, and furniture from the mainland to the islands. Tropical Shipping, a container shipping service, is a major player in this business but, in the past, you’ve had to arrange with a local trucking service or merchant and coordinate getting everything to Tropical’s facilities in Florida. Now, the company’s announced an arrangement with Con-Way Freight, a national freight transportation company, that should make the process easier.
Folks in the U.S. who need to ship to St. John, using the new TropicalDirect service, can call Con-Way and get the process started.
(Cross your fingers, though. Con-Way’s Web site shows it’s shipping in the VIs to "St. Croix, St. Johns, (and) St. Thomas."
