Weekend Sanity/Fear rally drew VI attendance

Crowd_103010-275x129 Shaun Pennington, publisher of the VI's Source online newspapers, was among the hundreds of thousands of people on the Washington Mall Saturday for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.

Pennington said she and her husband joined  "throngs of multi-colored, cradle to not-far-from-the-grave aged people" for the three-hour show.  They were shoulder to shoulder and belly to butt. "We were all there to be counted."

Jon Stewart's comments about the media were notable, the Virgin Islands journalist said.  She quoted his criticism of the 24/7 news cycle and polarizing cable news commentators who, Stewart said, magnify and distort.

"The country's 24-hour, political pundit, perpetual panic conflict-inator did not cause our problems," the comedian said. "But its existence makes solving them that much harder," he said. "If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."

Pennington said her fellow rally-goers were good company.  "Nearly all of them rational and nearly all of them laughing and full of hope and good cheer."

  1. How about that. Another liberal running a paper. What a surprise.
By the way you can publish my name. I’m sure not an elite like you.

  2. Oh yes, they were soo full of love and peace. Hateful signs and attacking conservative reporters.
Your little island would be barren if it wasn’t for capitalism.

  3. Right on Lois! It’s interesting to watch and see how the truth is received (or not) and how the PEOPLE (not the elitists) responded last night!!
