Registration Now Open for One of Our Favorite Island Events!

8 Tuff Miles sign
Our very worn Mile 8 sign 🙂

Hello everyone and happy Monday! If you’re looking for a reason to make vacation plans in late February, here it is! Registration is now open for one of my Favorite Island Events – 8 Tuff Miles. Not a runner? No worries!

For those of you unfamiliar with 8 Tuff Miles, it’s a pretty intense road race that starts behind the National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay and ends at the ball field in Coral Bay. The race, or walk for some folks, begins and ends at sea level, and reaches an elevation of 1,000 feet along the way. The course is 8.3 miles and winds along Centerline Road.

There are a lot of serious runners who participate in this race. There are also a lot of regular folks who are looking to challenge themselves. Over the years I have seen parents with strollers, friends pulling wagons of beer, and people young and old make the trek along Centerline from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay.

There are numerous water stations along the way, and News of St. John is proud to sponsor the final one out at mile 8. We have water and Gatorade for our true runners, and a variety of shots for our less serious runners … cheers! It’s a super fun event whether you’re a participant or a spectator. And if you happen to be on island, but don’t want to partake in the actual race but you want to participate somehow, please join us out at mile 8. Just email me at [email protected] for the details.

The race is held on the last Saturday of February, so February 29th next year. Happy leap year! It begins at 7:15 a.m. begins the Visitor’s Center in Cruz Bay. Numerous taxis will be available for return trips to Cruz Bay after the race. There is also a truck that will bring your belongings to Coral Bay, so participants can retrieve them after the race.

So as we mentioned, registration is now open. Adults are $60, adults ages 60 and over are $30 and youth 19 and under are just $15. Click here to learn more about the race and to register.
