New listing: Cruz Bay deli

DeliIt's been about 3 1/2 years since Dan Sheffey opened the Deli Grotto at Mongoose Junction.

It quickly became  a hit thanks to his personal attention, huge sandwiches, salads, nice wine selection, and Internet access.  The Virgin Islands Daily News readers' voted the Grotto "The Best Deli in the VIs."

It's time to move on.

The 2,000-square foot business formally went on the market in the last week, listed by American Paradise Real Estate with an asking price of $475,000.  There was a report it was for sale as long ago as last October.

The business's description the America Paradise site: "Catering to tourist & residents alike, Deli Grotto offers baked goods, smoothies, cold beer, extensive breakfast & lunch menu w/sandwiches, salads, pastries & ice cream available to eat in the a/c, on the outside terrace or take out."

  1. Drat, everytime we’re there I always wanted to go there and get a sandwich (to save money). I regret not making it there, although the place down by the ferry dock, you can get two beef pate’s and a redstrip for about 5 bucks …this time I’m getting the fried chicken leg.
A note to the next owner of the deli – Sausage Egg and Cheese sandwiches at 6:00 am would be huge for tourists and locals alike!

  2. I am very happy with the menu…and the muffins are absolutely to die for! They are nearly always gone by noon during high season, so be fore-warned…I am SO going to miss Dan and Amy, but Dan has been here in the USVI nearly 18 years, and Amy a really long time, too. I only hope whom ever buys the business will have their sense of palate prose!

  3. Have Dan and Amy left island already? I know it was on the market a while ago and then off. I remember when he had Grateful Deli in STT……….
Frank maybe you know if they are still on island…..
