North Shore Road Repairs to Begin Monday

North Shore Road Repairs Oct 2019
This stretch of road between Oppenheimer and Easter Rock will be repaired beginning Monday.

For those of you lucky enough to be on island in the upcoming months, you may want to give yourselves some extra time when heading along the North Shore Road.

The Virgin Islands National Park, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division, will begin storm damage repair work at three locations beginning this Monday, October 28. The areas to be fixed are the washout North Shore Road between Oppenheimer and Easter Rock; John Head Road (the road to Catherineberg) just above the North Shore Road; and Kings Hill Road near the intersection where you can head to Maho or Annaberg.

Road closures are not anticipated, although there could be delays due to the work. The island is expected to get a traffic light while work is underway. St. John typically does not have a single traffic light. 🙂

Work is expected to happen Monday through Friday only from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is expected to be completed by early January 2020. We will keep you all posted on the progress.

  1. Do you an idea to what extent John Head Road will be repaired? We’ve thought of renting a villa there, but the road has always deterred us. Thanks!
