New St. John restaurant reviews

Here's a sample of recent restaurant reviews posted on one of the the Inquiring Iguana's favorite Web sites, Yelp.com:

Uncle Joe's Barbecue, 5 stars out of 5 possible.

Kaylin B said, "My sister and I were walking around Cruz Bay shopping when we smell this whiff of yumminess … The only down side to this is the girl working the stand.  She has a bit of an attitude.  It's ok. The food more than makes up for it." (Cruz Bay)

Shipwreck Landing, 3 stars out of 5 possible

Jordan O said, "The waitress that we got was worse than prior experiences. The food is good-great, but not exceptional." (Coral Bay)

Vie's Snack Shack, 3 stars out of 5 possible

Catherine L said, “You order the conch fritters and maybe a johnny cake or two … snag a spot at a picnic table nearby and  dive into the perfectly fried fritters and throw in a little chutney for good measure.  These are certainly filling and get the job done.” (East End)

Morgan's Mango, 5 stars out of 5 possible

Corey M said, “Amazing food.  We had the tempura lobster bites for an app and beef tenderloin and pork tenderloin entrees.  The food came out perfect and the meat was cooked exactly as we asked.   Also try the key lime pie.” (Cruz Bay)

The Tourist Trap, 4 stars out of 5 possible

Jared C said, “We would have just driven by this unassuming spot if not for the word of a local about their tacos, and boy did they live up to the recommendation! Their grouper taco is great, and the night I was there they also had a special pulled pork taco that was even better.” (Coral Bay)

  1. Well, I think if you are going to share reviews on other establishments you should post GOOD reviews..Shipwreck Landing might appreciate it….just sayin’

  2. I guess I just don’t get Uncle Joe’s BBQ??? 5 out of 5 Stars??? It’s OK but not that good. Maybe it tastes better because it’s on STJ. I’ve had better BBQ in N.E.. And the attitude of the people that work there. It’s way more then a little..Maybe 2-3 out of 5 stars. Much rather get a burger down at High Tides for lunch. Anddd look at the ocean rather then a parking lot.

  3. I have to agree with the assessment of Uncle Joe’s – the food is good, not great – the smell of the food cooking is great and makes up for it, but the people working there ruin it.
Always had great food and service at Shipwreck, even when the cruise ship people would show up in droves everything was still great.
Tourist trap is the perfect location for grabbing some good food and drinks after a morning of snorkeling.

  4. Well, at Uncle Joe’s you don’t look at a parking lot, you look out onto the very colorful and vibrant street scene, so I wonder if you’ve actually been there. I have been eating at Uncle Joe’s for over 20 years regularly and have never had an attitude problem with the server or the gal at the cashier. Sure, it’s not a stateside BBQ joint but is is a locale landmark eatery and the food is delicious and made to order to boot! 5 out of 5 is my rating as well !!

  5. Uncle Joe’s Bar-b-que is the best! I look forward to having it at least twice during my visit for the last 23 years. I salivate thinking about those ribs!
But,Kaylin B. you are correct… the gals behind the counters do sometimes have an “attitude”. I would describe it like the Seinfeld episode of “The Soup Nazi”. It is amazing how the owner puts up with it.

  6. Uncle Joe’s is the best.We been comming to st.John since 1987.Chillaxin on the street can’t be beat.Attitude…try saying Hello first. They are fine and all family.Dealing with Jackasses like (Just another day in paraidise)everyday !!!!! Shipwreck ,much better years ago, still ok.

  7. I’ve been to Morgan’s Mango and we really enjoyed this restaurant. The variety of the menu is great and they also have some great specials that are not listed on there. I wanted to try everything because it all sounded really good. I enjoyed our food very much and the waiter was friendly.
