Living the Dream: Making a new hire

Gallows Gift & Gourmet books snorkeling trips, day sails, sport fishing.

The new owners of the Gallows Point Gift and Gourmet shop have added an employee.

In an e-mail to friends and family ‘back home’ in Colorado, Shannon said, “Woo Hoo … hiring our first employee … anticipating our first day off ‘together’; in six months after working 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., split shifts, every day.”

No complaints, though, she said. “We both love being busy and really enjoy talking with all the tourists.”

Operating the shop less than six months now, David and Shannon Pursley have beefed up and varied the inventory. "What’s new in the store is fine wines, sandwiches from Sam & Jack’s Deli, and new gift lines including great beach bags."

The biggest job has been getting a handle on the many services and activities for which they are also agents.  “There are over 40 vendors on island that offer different trips (snorkeling, diving, site seeing) so learning and booking those is challenging.”

Solution?  Over the next few months, take trips on all those boats.  Tough job.  Some one’s gotta do it.  Living the Dream.
