Let’s do brunch, St. John-style

Sunday often begins lazily.  And going out for breakfast is not top of mind.  But the St. John Sun Times folks say there is reason to think differently, namely a number of the island's restaurants.

For starters, La Plancha del Mar and Fatty Crab have very creative early-day offerings.  Fried chicken and waffles are a good choice at la Plancha, while Fatty rolls out flapjacks with creme fraiche batter and chili-maple bacon.

Sun Dog Cafe’s brunch, beginning at 10 a.m., is popular and predictable.  Eggs Benedict, french toast and omelettes.

240_sand-donkeySunday brunch starts early at Coral Bay’s Donkey Diner.  The first dishes come out of the kitchen at 8 a.m. and it’s a good idea to come early. “Sean and Sue serve up down home style fare that hits the spot on a groggy Sunday morning,” the Sun Times said.  On the menu: beef hash, omelets and even veggie-friendly dishes.

Back in Cruz Bay, Spyglass pours two-for-one Bloody Marys and serves up a raw bar.

  1. La Plancha has not done Sunday brunch in 6 months. The Sun Times published an article this issue that said the same, but I’m not sure where any of this info is coming from. However, La Plancha will be doing a Carnival Brunch on the morning of July 4th, but are not planning on relaunching regular Sunday brunch any time soon.

  2. The link is sure outdated. Some of those restaurants no longer exist!! Cafe Concordia has Sunday Brunch now as does Miss Lucy’s, our favorite!! And Donkey Diner’s breakfast is great every day!!!

  3. You have such a nice blog ! I’m following you now on GFC and bloglovin 🙂 if you want to check out my
blog, and follow me back if you like it, it would be amazing 😉

  4. um Debra, I’m pretty sure all those restaurants still exist. however it is true that the info is way out dated…. blog master should do proper research and not listen to what is posted in the sun times. just call them.
