Donkey baseball benefit set for Coral Bay

It’ll be ‘Batter, up!” this weekend in Coral Bay when the Carolina Corral stages a game of Donkey Baseball to raise funds to care for its horses and donkeys. The game is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Coral Bay ball field.

This is what donkey baseball looks like

Dana Bartlett’s been taking in animals in Coral Bay for almost 10 years.  It’s expensive to take care of the bills for food and vet fees and so on. “But, it’s my passion,” Bartlett said. So, you might day, she's holding a benefit for herself.

“After hitting the ball players must ride their donkeys around the bases while outfielders ride their donkeys to retrieve the ball,” she explained. “The object for the player is to score a point, the object of the donkey is to do what they want :)” Anybody can play.  The entry fee is $30 for riders.
