Happy Earth Day from one one of the most beautiful places on Earth – St. John! If you are lucky enough to be on island today, please take a lot of time to enjoy this magnificent island of ours which happens to be two-thirds National Park. So head out on one of our many hiking trails (Ram Head and Margaret Hill are my two favorites) or perhaps head to one of our gorgeous North Shore beaches. How nice would a day at Trunk Bay be today??? Sounds fantastic to me!
There are a few things happening today in celebration of Earth Day too. For starters, today is the day that Starfish Market officially stops using plastic bags. Woohoo Starfish! If you’re not familiar with this, click this link to read all about it.
There’s also an Earth Day fair happening today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to the National Park Visitor Center in Cruz Bay. This year’s theme is “plastic is drastic.” They’ll be handing out these beautifully designed reusable bags created by Yelena Rogers stuffed with goodies.
And lastly, tonight is the final guided full moon hike at Ram Head of the season. If you haven’t done a full moon hike up there, you’re really missing out. If you’re interested in this, please call Friends of the Virgin Island National Park at (340) 779-4940.
Again, happy Earth Day everyone! Have a great day!
I am very happy to hear that the plastic bags will no longer be used. I wish the whole world would get rid of them. We use to use paper only and we survived just fine.
