Anybody can come home from St. John with a t-shirt that says, “Mom and Dad went to the Virgin Islands, and all I got was a conch shell.”
But you can go home with your a wearable work of art and the memory of spending three hours with one of the St. John's best known characters and artists, Sloop Jones.
New this year, Jones is offering three-hour workshops, Tuesdays from 9 am to Noon, at his studio on the East End. The price is $100 per person. Classes are limited to six people.
Everybody gets Jones’ personal attention and learns how he works with colors and materials to create his island wardrobe.
One of the enthusiastic ‘pupils” who took the class, Martha Toomey, posted on her Facebook page, “I learned how to mix cool and warm paints, and how to keep the paint from bleeding. Now, I have my own creative St John memory now.”
Ooh,this looks like fun! Hope he’s still offering this in May. This is definitely something I would enjoy.
