We were lucky enough to receive a calendar from Elaine Estern the other day, and it is so incredibly stunning, that we felt compelled to share it with all of you.
For those of your not familiar with Elaine’s work, she is a well-known artist who specializes in watercolor paintings that depict life both above and underwater in the same piece. You may have seen some of her work at locations across the island – She is an Artist in Residence at the Westin Resort, as well as Gallows Point Resort, and Coconut Coast Villas. (Elaine was even invited to paint an ornament for the White House’s official tree in 2007. That piece now hangs in the National Archives.)
Here is a sample from her 2014 calendar – Steps & Depths:
As you can see, Elaine is quite talented. Not only do we love her paintings, but we also love the fact that she includes a little writeup to go along with each of month’s images in the calendar.
To give you an idea, here is what Elaine had to say about January’s image – The Drop Off.
“Legends abound relating to this Carvel Rock and several others of the same name throughout the Caribbean islands. Most often told is the story of the drunken pirate, who, one foggy night, in the fog of eyesight more likely, mistook the rock for a Spanish caravelle and proceeded to pound the ‘ship’ with canon fire all night, until the light of dawn revealed the true nature of his foe. Kekoa sails by so close, you can touch it.”
